Hello! Let me introduce myself! I’m Ronkeshia Howard, founder and owner of Divine Essence! I’m 28 years old and currently living in Indianapolis, IN. Though I was raised in Indianapolis, Baton Rouge, Louisiana will always be called home! I attended Manchester University (formerly College) where I received a Bachelors of Science Degree in Athletic Training in 2015. I’ve been working in my career as a Certified Athletic Trainer for 5 years and am currently working for IU Health at a local Indianapolis high school. I love my career, my purpose is to get injured athletes healthy enough to continue participation in their sport safely. It can be extremely stressful at times and it constantly keeps me on my toes, but it keeps my days interesting!

Since I was a young child...

One of my favorite things to do since I was a young child is sing! I am a very talented vocalist and musician. Before graduating from
Pike High School I used my musical talent and played in every marching band, concert band, and jazz band I could get into. Though I played several saxophones, alto saxophone was my primary instrument, which I still play from time to time. I also was a very active show choir member in our advanced mixed group Encores!

Christianity is a large part of my life.

I’ve sang at various competitions and events including weddings, funerals, outreach events, and video tributes. I’ve also recorded my own songs and with various upcoming artists. Singing the National Anthem at various sporting events has become a normal gig for me beginning in high school, and even once at Lucus Oil Stadium! I also fulfilled one of my goals of auditioning for The Voice multiple times. Currently, I sing praise and worship at my church on a weekly basis and have been doing so for years and years. Christianity is a large part of my life and I wouldn’t be where I am or as blessed as I am today without God covering me constantly, all praises go to Him.

I wanted to pick up a new hobby.

I bet by now you’re wondering what got me into making candles, right? It’s actually quite simple. I found myself feeling like I wanted to pick up a new hobby/skill. So many people have been breaking out and doing all these creative things and I thought,”I could do that!” So I thought and prayed about it for a couple days and I felt a strong urge to do something I’ve never really considered for myself before, starting my own business! The thought was exciting and scary, but I was ready to go for it! I have a very active and very large 2 year old male rottweiler at home named Kane, so keeping my house smelling nice and fresh is a must!

Too often people complain about their candle scents not being very strong and candles costing a small fortune. That is the problem I sought to solve. And just like that, I decided scented candles and wax melts was the way to go! It took alot of research and trust in the Lord, but I DID IT! Customers have complimented the strong scents of each fragrance that illuminates homes with excellence. These beautiful candles not only smell great, but look amazing with their vibrant colors and last for hours! I couldn’t be happier to have started this journey and in such a short time Divine Essence is already expanding.
